Obscurity of the Day: Mrs. Stout and Miss Lean






Mrs. Stout and Miss Lean (also occasionally known as Mrs. Stout and Miss Slim) was penned by the truly amazing hand of Penny Ross for the Chicago Tribune as one of their 2-color interior quarter-page Sunday strip offerings. It had a short run from September 10 1911 to February 25 1912.

Ross shows us that Wallis Simpson wasn't right that a girl can never be too rich or too thin by focusing plenty of his derision on Miss Lean. However, it must be admitted that Mrs. Stout's weight affords more opportunities for Ross' slapstick gags.
