Herriman Saturday

Friday, March 20 1908 -- Just a few days until the Fireman Jim Flynn / Battling Johnson fight, and today Herriman spends some time in Flynn's training camp. He comes away impressed with  the fighter's extreme workout regimen, and Flynn assures Herriman and sports reporter H.M. Walker that he is ready for the European giant. "I'll give you my sacred word not to back up an inch. Now if this big foreigner will do the same there will be a hard quick fight and it will be over inside five rounds at the longest."

While being interviewed by the Examiner, Flynn also completes a side-bet with the Johnson camp, laying $500 of the gate receipts he would collect on his win.
